ONEOFEACH is a mother & daughter design duo based in Cape Town by Tamburai and Pauline Chirume .
Pauline is a Fashion designer and contemporary visual artist with over 30 years experience.
Tamburai comes from a fashion retail and styling background, having worked with major fashion magazines such as Elle Bulgaria, and studied Consumer Science in Retail Fashion Management.
She then joined the banking world which has helped her conceptualise their ONEOFEACH dream to become a business reality.
The inspiration behind the start of ONEOFEACH was driven by our love for this continent and to celebrate and share African history to the world, by creating a luxury product which represents Africa holistically, focusing on premium quality and immaculate finish, ultimately a high end fashion product made in a Africa for the world.
Through this alone we believe we can make a great impact as an agent of change in Africa.
We source traditional patterned fabrics from Africa and combine them with leather and suede to make one-of-a-kind handbags, belts and bangles.
All our fabrics use traditional methods like wax printing and pit-and-stone dyeing processes from Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Congo-Brazzaville.
Traditional African fabrics were customised and designed to reflect local African tradition, culture and symbolisms.
Many of the designs found on these fabrics depict events, proverbs, persons of importance or local flora and fauna.
Supporting traditional fabric craftspeople from Africa helps with wealth distribution – remember that a lot of the African-inspired fabrics we see these days are imitations from China.
We buy these genuine article fabrics from their source to make our products, while ensuring the traditions are carried on and now passed into the western market.
We want to transform the mindsets towards African inspired products.
Moving away from the crafty products that flood the market, we wanted to create a luxury, functional product that is both creative and incorporates our African culture and heritage.
Africa has so much wisdom to offer. Due to westernisation and rural depopulation, we have seen a decrease in the traditional craft of fabric and print-making. We are on a mission to bring a balance of wealth back to the people of Africa so that we can all benefit from the beauty this continent has to offer.
The ancient wisdoms of our world are recorded in patterns on fabrics.
Buying our products will help support the indigenous communities and bring dignity back to the proud African soul.
The vision is of a balance between wisdom , innovation and recent fashion trends which is evident in the product and important in todays’ society where innovation in business is key.
